The recently completed USC Village brings a 15-acre, 1.25 million-sf expansion to the University of Southern California campus and marks the largest development project in the universityās history. The $700 million project provides an additional 2,500 beds and 100,000 sf of retail space to the Trojan campus.
Included across the Harley Ellis Devereaux-designed developmentās six buildings are lobbies, multi-purpose rooms, group study rooms, individual study rooms, outdoor areas, a gym, a media room, and a dining hall. The dining hall features custom stained-glass windows and gothic-style seating.

Tangram Interiors supplied the furniture for the student areas. The furniture arrangements are flexible and can be moved around to provide a layout that best fits a given situation.
C.L. Max Nikias, USCās President, described the project as looking like āa medieval Tuscan village refined for the 21st century.ā The mix of student housing, retail, and dining is expected to generate $5.2 billion of revenue for the local economy and generate thousands of jobs.
The project increased the USCās University Park footprint by nearly a third.

CityCenterās new Harmon Hotel targeted for demolition
MGM Resorts officials want to demolish the unopened 27-story Harmon Hotelāone of the main components of its brand new $8.5 billion CityCenter development in Las Vegas. In 2008, inspectors found structural work on the Harmon didnāt match building plans submitted to the county, with construction issues focused on improperly placed steel reinforcing bar. In January 2009, MGM scrapped the buildingās 200 condo units on the upper floors and stopped the tower at 27 stories, focusing on the Harmon having just 400 hotel rooms. With the Lord Norman Foster-designed building mired in litigation, construction has since been halted on the interior, and the blue-glass tower is essentially a 27-story empty shell.

Luxury hotels lead industry in green accommodations
Results from the American Hotel & Lodging Associationās 2010 Lodging Survey showed that luxury and upper-upscale hotels are most likely to feature green amenities and earn green certifications. Results were tallied from 8,800 respondents, for a very respectable 18% response rate. Questions focused on 14 green-related categories, including allergy-free rooms, water-saving programs, energy management systems, recycling programs, green certification, and green renovation.

Accor North America launches green hotel pilot program
Accor North America, a division of Accor Hospitality, has announced that it will pilot the Green Key Eco-Rating Program within its portfolio in the United States in 2010.
