DLR Group, JE Dunn Construction, and CoreCivic are teaming up to design and build the Kansas Department of Corrections’ new facility at the Lansing Correctional Campus in Lansing, Kan.

The new 396,719-sf facility will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. It will include an energy saving shell design with a top-of-the-line roofing system and highly insulated walls systems. Modern utility systems will also help with energy and cost savings. The design also includes advanced security systems (always good in a correctional facility), a local maintenance staff, and locksmiths.

New housing units, additional inmate beds, new intake units, and associated support spaces are all part of the new design. There will also be new dedicated spaces for medical services, food services, spiritual life, staff support areas, and indoor and outdoor recreation areas. Ample site circulation and parking space will be provided, all with improved lighting.

The design-build process is expected to take 24 months to complete.
