The construction of the Atlanta Braves’ new stadium, in 1 minute

SunTrust Park in Atlanta is racing toward its final stages of construction to be able to open on time for opening day for the Atlanta Braves' MLB baseball team. A newly released time-lapse video captures the last 21 months of construction in a flash. Image: hshin.ajc.com

The opening of SunTrust Park, the Atlanta Braves’ new $622 million, 41,500-seat stadium, is only 35 days away from opening day of the Major League Baseball season.

The stadium, designed by Populous and being built by American Builders, had its official groundbreaking on September 16, 2014. Since May 2015, OxBlue Corp., a construction camera provider, has been documenting the construction of the stadium and its plaza, known as The Battery Atlanta, using one fixed-position and two pan-tilt-zoom cameras that were mounted outside and above the stadium. Three other cameras were mounted at different locations on the 15-acre jobsite.

OxBlue has released a 1 minute-6 second video that compresses 21 months of construction. It was produced using a selection of 203,616 images captured by the three cameras.

SunTrust Park will include the first full LED lighting system in a major league stadium, and a canopy that shades about 60% of its seats from the sun.
