MIAMI, FL - (June 8, 2009) – BCArchitects, a full-service, award-winning architectural firm specializing in the programming, planning, design, production and construction administration of hospitality, healthcare, commercial and mixed-use projects, has launched a new Healthcare Division to accommodate the growing need within the industry for innovative, top-quality design solutions.
The new division will offer feasibility studies, planning, design, budgeting, construction documents, permitting and construction administration for medical campus, healthcare & hospital buildings, physician’s offices, imaging and surgical centers, emergency centers and walk-in clinics. BCA also offers space redesign/reorganization to increase patient comfort, satisfaction as well as increasing throughput while enhancing revenue streams through efficient design.
The firm has recently hired veterans in the healthcare industry to lead the division including F.W. “Dub” Evins as Principal, Director of Healthcare and Sandy Cohan as Director of Physician and Clinical Services. The combination of Evins’ vast experience in healthcare architecture and hospital administration and Sandy Cohan’s extensive experience as a technology and space planning consultant, ensures efficient design for BCA’s healthcare clients.
With over 30 years of experience exclusively in healthcare planning, design, construction and operations as both a licensed architect and hospital administrator, Evins has led major multi-campus hospital/healthcare systems through periods of strategic growth and physical facilities expansion processes with highly successful results. As a recognized, award-winning leader, he has guided three “Top 100” hospitals through complex medical facilities growth.
Evins’ project specific experience includes: Director of Healthcare Architecture, Senior Associate for South Miami Hospital’s Master Plan Implementation; Director of Healthcare Architecture, Senior Associate for Doctors Hospital in Miami’s Outpatient Surgery Center; Director of Healthcare Architecture, Senior Associate for Baptist Hospital of Miami’s VIP Executive Suites; Vice President of Development & Construction for Martha Jefferson Hospital’s Relocation Master Plan & Ambulatory Care Pavilion. He has also served as Vice President of Architecture & Construction for Carolinas Health System, Charlotte, North Carolina and Vice President, Design and Construction for Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach California.
Sandy Cohan has over 25 years of experience in Healthcare Imaging at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Outpatient Center, prior to launching HealthCare Growth Concepts, LLC (HCGC) in 2006. HCGC’s services include financial feasibility and projections for moving to digital technology, space planning and work-flow changes to increase volume of patients and revenue. HCGC clients include Breast Health Center & Diagnostic Ultrasound, Comprehensive Breast Center, and Leon Medical Center and The Villages Hospital in Leesburg, Florida.
“When designing a healthcare facility, importance must be placed on the end-user for physician and patient satisfaction and I look forward to bringing my clinical expertise and working knowledge to BCA,” says Sandy Cohan.
"Dub’s extensive experience in both hospital administration and hospital architecture will be of great benefit to BCArchitects’ clients in the healthcare industry,” says BCArchitects Principal Larry Cohan. “Moving patients efficiently through a healthcare facility is an art. “The proper design for paperless and digital departments that allow for efficient workflow, takes knowledge and experience and Sandy has both,” he adds.
