Zurich launches green building insurance

August 11, 2010

Commercial property and casualty insurance provider Zurich has introduced an insurance product specifically geared for green building projects. Better Green provides coverage to address some of the loss exposures and expenses unique to green building construction and renovation projects, including:
• Building commissioning
• Re-certification fees
• LEED AP consulting fees
• Air-quality management
• Debris recycling

The insurance also allows for reconstruction based on the current LEED rating criteria in force at the time of loss.

“As a global insurer, Zurich’s core skill is risk; climate change is all about risk. This green coverage enhancement is an excellent example of Zurich using its skills in risk evaluation, assessment and management to help our customers and stakeholders to adapt to and mitigate the risks of climate change,” said Lindene Patton, chief climate product officer.
