Zaha Hadid Architects is designing a 185-meter, 54-story mixed-use tower set to revitalize Melbourne’s Central Business District. The tower will be located on Collins Street close to the Docklands and the Southbank tourist and entertainment precinct.

The building will comprise a 196-room Mandarin Oriental hotel complete with an all-day dining restaurant and bar, spa, pool, fitness center, and rooftop terrace. Additionally, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will manage 148 residences within the tower. Residents of these homes will be able to enjoy all the amenities offered by the hotel as well as private amenities such as a residents’ lounge.

The new Mandarin Oriental, Melbourne uses a ‘stacked vases’ design meant to convey the variety of interior spaces offered. The overall building volume is separated into smaller compartments, or vases, with each different vase housing bespoke guestrooms, suites, residences, or amenities.

The project is expected to open in 2023 and marks Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s first property in Australia.
