Measuring a stout 100 meters high, 500 meters long, and 400 meters wide, the New Century Global Centre in the Tianfu New District of Chengdu, China, is officially the world's largest freestanding building, offering more than 18.2 million sf of multi-function floor area.
About a quarter of the building is dedicated to shopping, with the remainder housing offices, conference rooms, a university complex, hotels, a 14-screen IMAX cinema, a Mediterranean-themed village, a pirate ship, and skating rink.
The main attraction is a 5,000-sm indoor beach, complete with a 150-meter-long, 40-meter-high flat screen that will simulate the horizon and offer sunrises and sunsets.
