Accelerate Live! talk: Applying machine learning to building design, Daniel Davis, WeWork

May 24, 2017

Daniel Davis joins us from New York, but he hails from New Zealand, so don’t dare call him an Aussie!

Davis has a PhD in architecture and has spent the better part of the past 4.5 years researching and applying advanced technologies in building design and planning—from the use of sensors to reality capture to artificial intelligence.

As Director of Product Research at WeWork, Davis leads a team of researchers that is using a range of computation and machine learning methods to improve WeWork’s co-working office spaces across the globe.

When he isn’t busy revolutionizing workplace design, Davis works as a consultant for the ongoing construction of Antoni Gaudí’s famed Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona.

In this 15-minute talk at BD+C’s Accelerate Live! conference (May 11, 2017, Chicago), Davis offers a glimpse into the world at WeWork, and how his team is rethinking the workplace design with the help of machine learning tools.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Daniel Davis, PhD, is the Director of Product Research with WeWork. Based out of New York, Davis leads a team of researchers investigating the relationship between people and spaces at WeWork.

Using a range of computation and machine learning methods, his team is particularly interested in understanding how workplaces can be designed to enhance people's happiness, productivity, and connection to their community.

Davis originally trained as an architect in New Zealand and later did a PhD in computational design at RMIT University in Australia. Outside of WeWork, Davis works as a member of the design team completing Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
