Tower commemorates Lewis & Clark’s historic expedition

Tower commemorates Lewis & Clark’s historic expedition

October 13, 2010

The Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower in Hartford, Ill., commemorates explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark at the point where their trek to the Pacific Ocean began—the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The design of the $4.8 million, 180-foot tower symbolizes their historic journey, with one shaft representing Lewis and the other one Clark (one side contains the staircase, the other houses the elevator). Three lookout platforms represent the stages of the journey. The tower was built over an eight-year period. KAI Design and Build was project architect, SSE Inc. was the structural engineer of record, and H2K Construction and Jun Construction were GCs.
