Tishman Construction Corporation is managing the construction of a new, $160-million, 14-story, 510,000-sf Philadelphia Family Courthouse for the Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) at the northwest corner of 15th and Arch streets. With excavation almost complete and foundations having begun, the building is planned to be completed by the Spring of 2014.
The Family Courthouse project is the largest construction project in Philadelphia since the Pennsylvania Convention Center expansion and the renovation of the former 30th Street Post Office for the IRS. Tishman successfully delivered the convention center three months early as part of a joint venture.
The courthouse building, designed by EwingCole, is pursuing LEED Silver certification. The first level of the building will include the main entrance, court queuing and security, a vehicular port for prisoners being brought to the building for court appearances, building support areas, and the parking lobby. The second level will include court support offices, prisoner holding cells, and a public vending area accessed by elevator and escalator. BD+C
