Swedish practice Tham & Videgård Arkitekter has released designs for high-rise residential blocks made out of timber that will tower over an unused transport harbor in Stockholm, Dezeen reports.

The firms say that the four 20-story apartment blocks, totalling 24,700 sm, will be made entirely out of Swedish pine, from frame to façade.

A three-story base will connect the towers, providing 240 new homes, waterfront restaurants, cafes, and indoor gardens.

The firm was commissioned by local developer Folkhem, which specializes in the construction of solid timber buildings. The apartment complex is part of a wider rejuvenation project for the industrial area.

"Through consistent use of a renewable material like wood, the result is a sustainable, well-insulated and robust house structure with good potential to perform well over time, and minimize the total energy consumption," the architects told Dezeen.

Dezeen has the full report.
