Tight on space for multifamily? Check out this modular kitchen tower

Tight on space for multifamily? Check out this modular kitchen tower

Compact unit squeezes into a two-foot-square footprint, with swing-out modules for common kitchen functions.

By BD+C Staff | May 1, 2014

Milan is a home of innovative interior design, and the Clei Ecooking kitchen, recently rolled out at the Salone de Mobile furniture fair, is no exception. The compact unit includes a refrigerator/freezer, a sink and faucet, a four-burner induction cooktop, an air vent and purifier, a dishwasher, a coffee maker, storage space, a vertical herb garden (watered by greywater produced in the unit), and three countertops. Components swing in and out as desired, folding into a compact square tower when not in use. When closed, the unit fits into a footprint of slightly over two feet square.

Clei expects to begin offering the unit in Europe this fall, with U.S. distribtion to follow. Streamlined efficiency won't come cheap; the retail price is expected to be 10,000€ to 11,000€, or $14,000 to $15,000.

The video and images below give a rough idea of the product's design. For even more images, check out the coverage by Yahoo Homes.
