Thornton Tomasetti named D. Michael Dowdall, P.E., vice president of its Kansas City office. Joe Vyhanek, P.E., a senior vice president who joined the Kansas City office last year to lead the firm’s MEP team, sought out Dowdall for his extensive experience in mechanical design and forensics.
In his new role at Thornton Tomasetti, Dowdall will be responsible for supporting the Property Loss Consulting, Building Performance and Building Sustainability practices nationally. BD+C

Falling Architecture Billings Index reflects decrease in design demands
This months Architecture Billings Index (ABI), provided by the American Institute of Architects, is almost a full point lower than last month’s reported score. June’s reading of 47.2 was short of the required 50 to achieve billings increases, making July’s reading of 46.3 an unwelcome sign of market tidings.
