Summit Design + Build, LLC has been selected as general contractor for Office Concepts new corporate headquarters facility in Ch

Adam Miller, president of Summit Design + Build, LLC, announced the firm’s selection as general contractor for Office Concepts new 32,000 sf corporate headquarters facility at 1142 North Branch Street on Goose Island in Chicago.

Founded in 1938, Office Concepts provides workplace consultation, planning, procurement, delivery and installation and on-going maintenance to assist customers of all types and sizes with interior furnishing needs.  The company will be vacating its existing Chicago location at 965 W. Chicago Avenue and relocating all Chicago employees but will maintain its other sales and warehouse facility in Lake Forest, Illinois.           

According to Miller, the new headquarters will include 17,000 sf of office space and 15,000 sf of warehouse and feature 24 ft ceilings, an open floor plan, two conference rooms and one training room and will feature sustainable finishes throughout. Completion is scheduled for first quarter 2012. BD+C

Lindsey & Associates, Leppard Johnson & Associates, and Choate Interior Construction restored the 16-story, 310,537-sf building into the Residences at the John Marshall, a new mixed-use facility offering apartments, street-level retail, a catering kitchen, and two restored ballrooms.

The Building Team, led by local firms Caldwell Associates Architects and Greenhut Construction, had to tackle several difficult problems to make the historic building meet current Defense Department standards having to do with anti-terrorism, force protection, blast-proofing, and progressive collapse.

California bill would limit where distribution centers can be built

A bill that passed the California legislature would limit where distribution centers can be located and impose other rules aimed at reducing air pollution and traffic. Assembly Bill 98 would tighten building standards for new warehouses and ban heavy diesel truck traffic next to sensitive sites including homes, schools, parks and nursing homes.
