Suffolk Construction Company Inc. announced that it was selected by the Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission (BMAC) to provide preconstruction and construction management at risk services for the new terminal facility at Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis, Mass.
Designed to improve traffic flow and meet new security requirements, the new $17 million, 35,000-sf terminal will be built adjacent to the existing terminal, which will be demolished as part of the project. The new terminal will accommodate ticketing facilities, baggage claim, airport management offices, airline offices, passenger and baggage screening areas, a restaurant, gift shop, Transportation Security Administration offices, and secure/nonsecure holding rooms. The project scope also includes a general reconfiguration of the existing parking lots, the construction of two new parking lots, and a new airport circulation roadway.
Construction of the new Barnstable Municipal Airport terminal will be challenging. The airport and existing terminal will remain operational throughout construction, so the Suffolk project team will implement a comprehensive safety plan and construction schedule that will result in minimal impact on airport operations. Suffolk’s in-depth experience managing construction and renovation projects on tight sites within operational facilities will be essential in ensuring a seamless construction process.
Designed by AECOM|Earth Tech, the new terminal will be built to achieve LEED Silver. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2009 and be completed by October 2010.
