Students design net-zero, LEED Platinum field house

Students design net-zero, LEED Platinum field house

By Candace Roulo of ContractorMag.com | June 29, 2011

Students at The Putney School helped design a 16,800-sf field house, which is solar powered to achieve net-zero status and certified as LEED Platinum. Producing 51,371 kWh a year, the building consumes only 48,374 kWh of electricity. Other energy-efficient technologies include low-water fixtures, composting toilets, white reflective roof, fiberglass windows and a skylight.

For more on the Putney School fieldhouse and net-zero energy buildings, consult BD+C’s White Paper, “Zero and Net-Zero Energy Buildings + Homes” at: www.BDCnetwork.com/whitepapers.

Detroit’s Michigan Central Station, centerpiece of innovation hub, opens

The recently opened Michigan Central Station in Detroit is the centerpiece of a 30-acre technology and cultural hub that will include development of urban transportation solutions. The six-year adaptive reuse project of the 640,000 sf historic station, created by the same architect as New York’s Grand Central Station, is the latest sign of a reinvigorating Detroit.
