Roofs painted white can reflect heat and reduce warm-weather energy use, but in cooler regions like Minneapolis or Chicago, the issue of energy-efficiency is less straightforward. While white rooftops will still achieve energy savings during hot summer months, studies suggest they may increase the heating bills during winter. Generally speaking, the colder your climate is, the less you’ll end up saving in energy costs with a reflective roof.
