Some industry insiders see design-build as easier path to LEED certification

The design-build construction delivery method may have advantages during a LEED certification process.

By BD+C Staff | July 5, 2013

The design-build construction delivery method may have advantages during a LEED certification process. Design-build makes it easy to ensure that all the subcontractors used the appropriate methods and materials, according to McGough Construction's Ken Potts.

“When you’re going for gold, you can’t let many credits drop off the table,” Potts says.

The design-bid-build and construction-manager-at-risk methods also can work well in a LEED environment if the construction manager and designer are on board early in the project, according to Mortenson Construction's Erin Saewert.
