SLATERPAULL Architects to merge with Hord Coplan Macht

The new firm will include a total of 180 employees among the three offices.

By Hord Coplan Macht | July 24, 2014
Baltimore-based multidisciplinary design firm Hord Coplan Macht announced that Denver design and planning firm SLATERPAULL Architects has joined the firm.

The merger will create a full-service practice with offices in Baltimore, MD, Denver, CO and Alexandria, VA that offers integrated architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, planning and historic preservation services. Lee Coplan will remain as CEO of the firm and its headquarters will stay in Baltimore.

The addition gives Hord Coplan Macht’s practice an enhanced portfolio in K-12 and higher education design while adding healthcare, mixed use/housing and senior living to the SLATERPAULL Denver studio. The merger also broadens Hord Coplan Macht’s national presence by adding a Denver office. In Denver, the combined firm will do business as SLATERPAULL Hord Coplan Macht.

“By combining our strengths we can offer deeper expertise and a wider scope of services to clients in more markets,” said Lee Coplan, one of the founders of Hord Coplan Macht who also serves as the firm’s CEO. “Ultimately, that means we can have a bigger positive impact on the organizations and communities we serve.”

“We share similar areas of expertise and cultures, as well as a strong sense of commitment to sustainable design, research and collaboration, which made this partnership a natural fit,” says Jamie Pedler, president and CFO of SLATERPAULL Architects. “We look forward to continuing to provide the same high level of service to our clients that we have delivered for the past 40 years with enhanced capabilities and expertise in additional project types.”

Three members of SLATERPAULL’s leadership team will join Hord Coplan Macht’s board of directors. The new firm will include a total of 180 employees among the three offices.
