RTKL, the global architecture, planning and design firm, announced that Lance Hosey AIA, LEED AP, author and recognized authority on green architecture and design, joined RTKL as Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President. Hosey, whose latest book, The Shape of Green: Aesthetics, Ecology and Design (Island Press, 2012), sets forth clear principles for the aesthetics of sustainable design, will direct RTKL’s strategic initiative in Performance-driven Design SM, a metric-focused approach to architecture, planning and urban design.
Hosey joins RTKL after serving as president & CEO of GreenBlue, a non-profit company dedicated to sustainable innovation in design and production. Prior to that, Hosey was a director with William McDonough + Partners, a pioneer of sustainable design, where he worked with clients such as Google, NASA, Palm, and SC Johnson. +

Falling Architecture Billings Index reflects decrease in design demands
This months Architecture Billings Index (ABI), provided by the American Institute of Architects, is almost a full point lower than last month’s reported score. June’s reading of 47.2 was short of the required 50 to achieve billings increases, making July’s reading of 46.3 an unwelcome sign of market tidings.
