Robert Ivy, FAIA, CEO of the American Institute of Architects, will be the keynote speaker at BUILDINGChicago on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Jerry Yudelson, PE, LEED Fellow, the author of 13 books on sustainable design, will deliver the Wednesday, September 11, keynote address.
Ivy served as Vice President/Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Construction and Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Record. Under his tenure, Record received the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. In 2009, Ivy received the G.D. Crain Award for lifetime contributions to editorial excellence in business media.
Ivy, who started his architectural career as a principal at Dean, Dale, Dean, & Ivy, Jackson, Miss., will discuss āCurrent and Future Trends in the AEC Industry.ā
Yudelson, one of the first group of professionals to be named a LEED Fellow, has written 13 books on green building, most recently The Worldās Greenest Buildings: Promise vs. Performance in Sustainable Design (with Ulf Meyer). In the past five years he has keynoted nearly 100 green building conferences in 14 countries.
Yudelsonās topic, āWhat Do They Know that We Donāt? Lessons from Beyond the U.S.,ā is based on the research for his latest book.

ARRA-funded Navy hospital aims for LEED Gold
The team of Clark/McCarthy, HKS Architects, and Wingler & Sharp are collaborating on the design of a new naval hospital at Camp Pendleton in Southern California. Arizona outpatient cancer center to light a ālantern of hopeā
Construction of the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Ariz., is under way. Located on the Banner Gateway Medical Center campus near Phoenix, the three-story, 131,000-sf outpatient facility will house radiation oncology, outpatient imaging, multi-specialty clinics, infusion therapy, and various support services. Cannon Design incorporated a signature architectural feature called the ālantern of hopeā for the $90 million facility.

Energy efficiency No. 1 priority for commercial office tenants
Green building initiatives are a key influencer when tenants decide to sign a commercial real estate lease, according to a survey by GE Capital Real Estate. Green building thrives in shaky economy

Green building has grown 50% in the past two years; total construction starts have shrunk 26% over the same time period, according to āGreen Outlook 2011ā report. The green-building sector is expected to nearly triple by 2015, representing as much as $145 billion in new construction activity.
