The renovation and expansion of the public works operations facility in Wilmette, Ill., including a 5,000-sf addition that houses administrative and engineering offices, locker rooms, and a lunch room/meeting room, is seeking LEED Gold certification. Chicago-based A/E firm Epstein gave the office building a linear design and clerestory windows to maximize natural light and limit electricity use within the space. The project also includes a new 5,000-sf wash bay that accommodates four trucks; in keeping with the projectās sustainability goals, the wash bay uses a water-recycling system.
