Philadelphia office building earns city’s first LEED Gold

By Leslie Streicher, Associate Editor | November 10, 2011

The Ten Penn Center Associates’ office building has been awarded LEED Gold, making it the first existing building in Philadelphia and the third in Pennsylvania to receive this certification. Originally built by Skidmore Owings Merrell in 1981, the building underwent renovations in 2006, adding 721,408 gsf to the structure.

Recently, the center brought in LEEDing Edge Consulting Services to improve energy, lighting, water, and material use, and achieve an LEED rating. Double-insulated Thermopane windows, HVAC fan distribution systems, a 30% reduction in water use, and high-performance filtration equipment were added to secure a greener footprint.
