Nu-Wood brackets give 110-year-old hotel another level of distinction

One of the goals during the hotel’s 2014 and 2015 refurbishment was to create a low maintenance exterior.

During a recent restoration, Hotel Breakers, a 110-year-old hotel located adjacent to Ohio’s Cedar Point amusement park, was outfitted with almost 500 Nu-Wood brackets.

One of the goals during the hotel’s 2014 and 2015 refurbishment was to create a low maintenance exterior. Because so many brackets were required, and due to the high elevation at which many would be installed, future maintenance would be costly and difficult. Braun & Steidl Architects, the architect for the project, specified the use of custom-made brackets in three sizes from Nu-Wood.

The Nu-Wood polyurethane brackets will not rot, crack, absorb water, or swell and are moisture-, mold-, insect-, and impact-resistant, all while retaining the desired aesthetic of real wood. The brackets were made in a range of sizes from three feet tall up to more than five feet tall in order to be clearly visible from the ground.

225 brackets were installed along the roofline in phase one of the renovation and an additional 205 brackets were installed in phase two. 65 brackets will be installed to a new addition planned for the hotel later this year.
