Highland Associates is providing architectural/engineering design services for two data center facilities totaling almost 430,000 sf in Totowa, N.J., for owner Digital Realty Trust.

The design uses the owner’s TK-Flex planning module, allowing for 24 pods. Rooftop units will provide cooling for IT equipment loads as well as exterior heat loads and heat gain from people, lighting, and power distribution units in the space.

Air-side economizers will be used to increase system efficiency and reduce energy usage. Sight lines, noise, and security have been designed with sensitivity to surrounding residential areas. A new 69 kV substation will feed the two new buildings.

Also on the Building Team: The Ardent Company (owner’s project manager/representative), RRC Engineering (SE), VHB (CE), DPR Construction (preconstruction services), Turner Construction (preconstruction services), and Guidepost Solutions (site and building security).
