Epstein Joslin Architects, Cambridge, Mass., designed the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Mass., to showcase the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, as well at the site’s ocean views. A two-story glass curtain wall behind the stage allows views of the harbor, while heavy timber framing, woven millwork, and stonework composite walls add to the coastal feel. Since the ledge-filled oceanfront site is located between other buildings in a busy tourist area, Consigli Construction Co., Milford, Mass., scheduled construction with breaks during summer and winter holiday seasons and worked with the town to encourage tourists to visit shops on the street during construction.
