Researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland have introduced a multimedia app that they say will reduce injuries and save lives on construction projects.

To test the app, researchers chose 40 designers to review a set of CAD drawings. Half of the participants looked for potential design-related hazards using the app, and the other half relied on the internet for help.

Those using the app identified three to five times more incidences that could be problematic than those using the internet alone. Researchers believe that the app can improve the health and safety of construction workers and building occupants.

The researchers are looking for developers to help produce a prototype app that can be made available to the entire design and construction industry.
