New York-based Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership has been selected to design a new children’s museum in Sofia, Bulgaria—the first children’s museum in Eastern Europe.
The museum, called MUZEIKO, will be located in a former college laboratory building in the Studentski-grad university precinct. A+A Architects will assist in the project, which is being planned by the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
Embodying the theme “little mountains,” the 35,000-sf museum will include interpretive exhibits, a café, and an outdoor green roof, amphitheater, and science-themed play area. Inside, each of the building’s three levels will explore a different era in Bulgaria—past, present, and future.
Paul Orselli Workshop (POW!) is consulting on the project and will help develop complementary STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) educational programs.
