GreenStep Cities, a Minnesota initiative, was designed to provide greater recognition to the state's communities for achievements in meeting sustainability standards and goals.
It stemmed from the state's Next Generation Energy Act, which called for reducing energy consumption and investing in renewable power. Recognition by the program may help cities receive grants to implement more sustainability projects.
