The $120 million Meritus Regional Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md., replaces the organization’s outdated Washington County Regional Hospital, built in 1934. The new 500,000-sf, five-story hospital, designed by Chicago-based Matthei & Colin Associates, has 267 beds, 17 operating rooms with high-resolution video screens, a special care level II nursery, and an emergency room with 53 treatment rooms, two trauma rooms, and two cardiac rooms. A digital imaging system allows physicians to view x-rays from their offices.
