Residential and commercial building professionals can learn how to comply with green building standards enacted by Los Angeles County and the state by attending one in a series of free training sessions sponsored by the County over next three months.
The three-hour sessions will provide a comprehensive look at the state and county requirements and provide practical, real-world examples of how to comply with complex regulations. Builders, developers, architects, engineers and landscape architects who work on projects in the unincorporated portions of Los Angeles County are particularly encouraged to attend.
The initial trainings will be held on the following dates at various locations across the county:
- Wednesday, March 28th in Exposition Park from 1:30-4:30 p.m., Environmental Service Center, 700 Exposition Park Dr., Los Angeles
- Thursday, March 29th in West Covina from 9 a.m.-noon, West Covina City Hall, 1444 West Garvey Avenue South
- Wednesday, April 18th in Santa Clarita from 1:30-4:30 p.m., Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20870 Centre Pointe Parkway
- Thursday, April 19 in Downtown Los Angeles from 9 a.m.-noon. 523 W. 6th Street, Pacific Room (first floor)
Additionally, trainings are tentatively scheduled for Santa Monica on Tuesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 23.

Manhattan's Pier 57 to be transformed into cultural center, small business incubator, and public park as part of $210 million redevelopment plan
LOT-EK, Beyer Blinder Belle, and West 8 have been selected as the design team for Hudson River Park’s Pier 57 at 15th Street and the Hudson River as part of the development group led by New York-based real estate developer YoungWoo & Associates. The 375,000 square foot vacant, former passenger ship terminal will be transformed into a cultural center, small business incubator, and public park, including a rooftop venue for the Tribeca Film Festival.

AGC: Construction employment declines in 47 states in July
Few states were immune from construction employment declines this July based on an analysis of federal employment data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. That analysis found that 47 states saw declines in construction employment, while only two states saw increases and one saw no change in construction employment between July 2008 and July 2009.

AGC: Construction unemployment reaches 19.2%
Unemployment in the construction sector climbed to a “horrendous” 19.2 percent (not-seasonally adjusted) as an additional 59,000 construction workers lost their jobs in May according to new federal data, said construction economist Ken Simonson today.
