Rush University Medical Center has selected Loebl Schlossman & Hackl to provide planning and architectural design services for the expansion of its comprehensive outpatient cancer treatment center, to be located on the 10th floor of its professional office building complex.
One of the top five academic medical centers in the nation as ranked by the University HealthSystem Consortium in 2008, Rush University Medical Center is a 170-year-old nonprofit institution that encompasses a 613-bed hospital for adults and children, the 61-bed Johnston R. Bowman Health Center, and Rush University. Rush has more than a dozen programs specializing in the treatment of specific cancers, providing services including radiation and bone marrow transplants.
Loebl Schlossman & Hackl’s design of the new 39,200 SF comprehensive outpatient cancer treatment center will centralize Rush’s existing Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Cancer clinics and reserve space for the integration of other outpatient clinics in the future. This physical reorganization of Rush’s cancer programs will make navigating the campus much easier for patients who, in a single visit to Rush, often consult multiple care providers whose offices are currently spread across the Medical Center. It will also improve the physical environment of care and bring together complementary services that improve the patient experience and overall level of care. Loebl Schlossman & Hackl has previously designed cancer care centers for hospitals including Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois, and Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland.
Noblis, a national non-profit science, technology, and strategy organization, is part of Loebl Schlossman & Hackl’s team and will provide program analysis and design consulting. Noblis has provided similar services at cancer care centers and academic medical centers including Middlesex Health System in Middletown, Connecticut, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
