According to a press release issued by the company, Lend Lease is honored to be the general contractor for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum project at the World Trade Center site in New York City. The Memorial part of the structure was opened September 11th in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The Museum will open, as scheduled, in 2012.

The Memorial features two reflecting pools, each nearly an acre in size that sit in the footprints of the former Twin Towers. It also includes the largest manmade waterfall in North America and more than 400 swamp white oak trees that envelop the pools. The names of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who perished in the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 are engraved on bronze panels surrounding the pools. BD+C
