The Washington, D.C. office of architecture and design firm Perkins Eastman is pleased to announce that J. Scott Kilbourn AIA, LEED AP has joined as a Principal and Chief Operating Officer of the firm’s growing international practice.
Kilbourn joins with more than 28 years of design and planning experience for communities, buildings, and interiors in hospitality, retail/mixed-use, corporate office, and healthcare—most recently focusing on high-density, mixed-use developments. In his role as COO International, he will join the firm’s existing domestic and international management team to oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm’s international offices, staff, and overseas projects. Smithsonian building $45 million green lab
Thanks to a $45 million federal appropriation to the Smithsonian Institution, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Md., has broken ground on what is expected to be one of the most energy-efficient laboratories in the country. The 69,000-sf lab is targeting LEED Gold and is expected to use 37% less energy and emit 37% less carbon dioxide than a similar building.
