Independence Events Center

By Staff | August 11, 2010

City officials and executives of Phoenix-based Global Entertainment Group were present as ground was broken for a 5,800-seat multipurpose events center and community skating rink on the southwest corner of Interstate 70 and Missouri 291. The new events center will include luxury suites and VIP seating along with restaurants, lounges and an attached practice facility with a second ice surface.

A Central Hockey League team is planned to be the facility's primary tenant.

"We are looking forward to the opening of this new arena, which will serve as a location for a variety of local and regional events," said Independence Mayor Don Reimal. "This tremendous facility will benefit not only Independence and Jackson County, but also the surrounding communities and counties."

J.E. Dunn Construction is the contractor for the project. Grand opening is scheduled for 2009.
