Interior and exterior renovations and updates will make the Detroit Cobo Center more appealing to conventioneers. A new 40,000-sf ballroom will take advantage of the center’s riverfront location, with views of the river and downtown. A new façade, including windows, glass canopies, and media walls, will give the exterior a facelift. Upgrades to the mechanical systems will help the building become more energy efficient, and new back-of-the-house circulation should improve operational efficiency. Atlanta-based tvsdesign is overseeing design on the $260 million project, which aims for completion in 2014.
