A recently introduced U.S. House of Representatives bill would give the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) more authority over state workplace-safety plans and toughen penalties for companies that knowingly violate OSHA regulations. The Government Accountability Office released a report in April that says state budget and staffing cuts have compromised safety at some workplaces.
