Turner Construction Selected To Manage Construction Of $500 Million Terminal 2 Expansion At San Diego International Airport
New York, N.Y., May 7, 2009 – Turner Construction Company was selected to serve as the design builder for the expansion of Terminal 2 at the San Diego International Airport in San Diego, Calif. The projected construction cost for the Terminal and Airside expansion is $500 million. Turner will manage the construction of the 470,000 sq. ft. expansion as the majority partner in a joint venture that includes Flatiron Corp., Turner’s sister company, and PCL Construction Services, Inc. The project is targeting a LEED Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council upon completion in 2012.
The scope of work for the contract includes construction of a three-story, ten gate expansion of Terminal 2 containing a ticket lobby, airline check in, security screening, baggage handling, seating areas, concessions and support space. Also included is approximately 1.5 million of new taxiway and Jet parking.
Turner is managing the construction also in a joint venture with Flatiron Corp. of the 300,000 sq. ft., 19-gate Sacramento International Airport Terminal B Modernization Program – Airside Concourse project, the inline baggage screening expansion project for Los Angeles International Airport, Phase 1 of the 500,000 sq. ft. renovation and expansion of Terminal 2 at San Francisco International Airport and is in the process of closing-out the renovations of Terminal 2 and access roadway improvements for increased terminal access and to ease congestion at Oakland International Airport.
