The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, and Delmar, a leading provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education and part of Cengage Learning, has unveiled a new online resource for sustainable construction and manufacturing. The website, www.TheGreenDestination.com, features green building tips for consumers and industry experts, information on compliant manufacturers, industry news and information, green products, conformity assessment programs and codes, upcoming industry seminars and events, and various resources and tools.

Easy-to-use and rich in content, www.TheGreenDestination.com is a portal containing a broad range of information related to green construction. The site is updated frequently with practical advice, tips and information for selecting a sustainable property; positioning buildings on a site; designing with sustainable materials; energy, water and material conservation; and recycling construction waste. It is intended to reach industry professionals and workers looking to meet compliance issues and stay abreast of the sustainable construction industry, as well as home owners and consumers interested in building a more sustainable home.

“With more and more interest in sustainable construction, the need for reliable and timely information on green building construction practices has never been more critical, ” said International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland. “TheGreenDestination.com provides the necessary information and guidance professionals and consumers need to build safe and sustainable homes, office buildings, schools, hospitals and other facilities, acting as a one-stop resource for compliance information and support.”

The site also offers recommendations for helpful books and multi-media such as:

--2009 International Energy Conservation Code, which encourages energy conservation through efficiency in envelope design, mechanical systems, lighting systems, and the use of new materials and techniques
--National Green Building Standard (ICC 700), the first national standard to address green practices in residential construction
--The Green Home: A Decision Making Guide for Owners and Builders, a book dedicated to teaching builders and homeowners about environmentally friendly residential construction
--“Building Green” DVD, a documentary highlighting five U.S. cities’ green initiatives.

“There is so much to consider when building a sustainable structure, from the site plan to how to dispose of waste in the most environmentally friendly manner,” said Greg Clayton, Vice President, Technology & Trades Professional Business Unit for Cengage Learning.  "TheGreenDestination.com will help professionals and general consumers alike as they navigate the often complicated process of green construction to ensure more buildings and homes can truly be sustainable.”
