AAMA leads development of BIM standard for fenestration products

Aug. 11, 2010

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association’s newly formed BIM Task Group met during the AAMA National Fall Conference to discuss the need for an BIM standard for nonresidential fenestration products.

The goal is to standardize the data contained within manufacturers’ BIM product models so that BIM can be implemented across a broad range of products efficiently and effectively. The standard would help users of BIM models understand the level of information contained within the fenestration objects.

The task group is currently in the process of preparing content for a survey that will be given to architects, specifiers, and general contractors. Once the survey content is developed, a link to the completed survey will be posted on the AAMA website. The survey results will then be reviewed at the AAMA 73rd Annual Conference, February 14-17, 2010, in Palm Springs, Calif.
