An aluminum composite panel was chosen for a building combining stone, metal and glass materials to echo adjacent precast structures and Salt Lake City's mountainous backdrop. The nine-story office building, designed for high-tech leader Novell, was clad in 'champagne metallic' panels at the penthouse, entryway canopies and along the facades, as well as for caps on square granite columns at an entryway. The aluminum composite panels-formed and hung as a rout-and-return, dry system-are also used as an interior wall material at the entryway for visual continuity.
'Existing buildings on the campus were precast concrete, and we were asked to create a look that would blend with but not copy what was there, while blending with the mountains in the larger area surrounding the campus,' said Jeff Stebar, project architect for MHTN Architects, Salt Lake City.
