The Beijing Capital Airport is currently operating beyond its planned capacity, so a new airport designed by ADP Ingeniérie and Zaha Hadid Architects, planned to be the world’s largest airport passenger terminal, is hoped to alleviate this traffic.
Named the Beijing New Airport Terminal, the design aims to accommodate 45 million passengers per year, ArchDaily reports. “The new terminal will be adaptable and sustainable, operating in many different configurations dependent on varying aircraft and passenger traffic throughout each day,” Zaha Hadid Architects stated in a press release.
The terminal will be a hub for both air and rail travel, as it is planned to host direct links to local and national rail services, including the Gaotie high speed rail.
So far, the Building Team reported consists of the design team, as well as Buro Happold, Mott MacDonald, and EC Harris.
According to Dezeen, if completed, this will be Hadid’s first airport.
