'Folded facade' proposal wins cultural arts center competition in South Korea

In a competition to design a new cultural arts center in Ansan, South Korea, Seoul-based Designcamp Moonpark has come out on top. The firm's proposal is comprised of two theaters and a cultural arts building that frame a garden and waterfront plaza, ArchDaily reports.
The garden, called a Madang, can function as a space for performances and other civic events. It is edged by a "cultural corridor" that connects to the plaza.
The two theaters are connected by an auditorium and a shared lobby, but are separated by enough distance to avoid acoustic interference between the two venues. A buffer is provided by the loading dock and service areas.
Called the "Forest Level," the third floor of the theater separates into two individual masses, which contain green space, practice rooms, and offices. The main auditorium will face the waterfront, giving visitors a breathtaking view.
On the exterior of the buildings, folded facades take visual cues from the landscape.
