Designed by Centerbrook Architects of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., is developing a new campus complete with a student center and a number of green initiatives. The campus’s wind terrace, for example, is made of 25 vertical turbines, which will generate clean energy; the terrace will serve as a gathering area for students. Dubbed a “kinetic sculpture garden,” the turbines reach 40 feet into the air and allow students to pass underneath. Landscaping and chairs will be in place this spring, when the turbines will be plugged into the school’s electrical grid.
