gkkworks designs $73 million California high school

An existing, three-story steel frame from a discarded medical center project provides a portion of the structural support for a planned $73 million high school in Granada Hills, Calif., designed by gkkworks of Irvine. The 143,000-sf Los Angeles Unified School District campus—about half the size of typical high schools—is intended to be a smaller learning community, and will be home to 1,215 students. The campus includes a three-story classroom building, two-story administration building with cafeteria and kitchen, gym, and multipurpose room with stage, music room, library, and counseling offices.
