Remember the Alamo

Aug. 11, 2010

In search of an economical decorative solution for its new facility, Valero Energy Corp. of San Antonio, Texas, explored the possibility of employing an expanded polystyrene (EPS) system. Creating an aesthetically pleasing façade for the new, 300,000-sq.-ft. building that was also environmentally benign was a challenge, the project team found.

The foam EPS product was used on almost every level for decorative window sills and customized architectural shapes, as well as neoclassical columns on the sixth floor. The system provided a versatile and cost-effective solution for the company's central operations facility.
