Metal roofs take the residential market by storm

Once only popular in the commercial market, metal roofs have grown in popularity in recent years on residential projects. Homeowners are demanding durable roofs with minimal maintenance, causing its share of the roofing market to jump each year. In 2016, metal roofing comprised 14% of the residential market, nearly doubling in a few years. Meanwhile, asphalt shingles are declining in popularity.

As metal roofing soars in popularity, so do the aesthetic options. Now, there are more shapes, colors, and texture options than ever before.

Although these roofs often have a higher upfront cost, the design life is typically around 50 years. This is significantly longer than asphalt shingles, providing exceptional value over the life of the product. Metal roofs are also praised for their energy efficiency, lowering energy bills throughout the life of the product. Solar reflective coatings can also lower cooling bills by reflecting unwanted heat.
