Gehry Technologies partners with Autodesk; BIM-integrated cloud add-on for ArchiCAD; Timberlake nominated to NIBS board
Autodesk and Gehry Technologies today announced that they will work closely together to support an expanded portfolio of BIM solutions. The agreement includes full service for multiple Autodesk-based BIM products to better meet the needs of many Gehry Technologies consultancy clients.
“I started Gehry Technologies to alleviate many of the long-standing challenges that were present within the industry and to enhance best practices for each new building project,” said Frank Gehry, famed architect and co-founder of Gehry Technologies in a statement. “As a result, the technologies and processes that Gehry Technologies has developed over the years have been critical in helping to achieve this vision while also providing great value to our clients. Autodesk products have been in our toolbox for many years, and now this relationship will help drive our shared goal of industry transformation by helping architects, engineers, contractors and owners get better value and impact from technology.”
Under the terms of the business relationship, Autodesk will provide Gehry Technologies’ consulting division with extensive support and training in using Autodesk BIM solutions, including the Autodesk Building Design Suite, the Revit family of products, Autodesk Navisworks, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk Vault Collaboration AEC. As a part of the agreement, Autodesk has made an equity investment in Gehry Technologies.
“Autodesk sees joining forces with Gehry Technologies’ consultancy services as a powerful way to help AEC firms transition to a BIM process,” said Jay Bhatt, senior vice president, AEC Solutions, Autodesk in the statement. “Our business relationship is designed to take advantage of our strengths as world leaders and will add additional momentum to the adoption of BIM as a process throughout the AEC industry.
Cloud add-on for ArchiCAD
1st Pricing, a Southern California-based ecommerce and technology company, has announced the release of an add-on that links their cloud-integrated BIM pricing technology to Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD platform. The technology will seamlessly integrate BIM into the design process and automatically create a detailed bill of materials with pricing and an online shopping cart pulling precise specifications from various cloud sources – called “5e” by 1st Pricing, which has created a standardized platform that integrates to CAD programs and ecommerce sites with supplier or distributor prices. This allows the purchase of specified materials online. The technology can also deliver green ratings, LEED information and energy efficiency data.
Obama nominates Timberlake to NIBS board
President Obama announced recently his intent to nominate James Timberlake, FAIA, as a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences board of directors. Timberlake was one of three intended appointees announced by the White House on October 3 and the Administration’s fourth intended nominee to the Institute board.
If approved, Timberlake, co-founder of innovative architecture firm KieranTimberlake in Philadelphia, would become one of the 21-member board of directors that governs the Institute. The board is composed of 15 members elected from either the public or industry categories and six members appointed by the president subject to the approval by the US Senate. The NIBS is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that brings together representatives of government, the AEC industry, labor and consumer interests to identify and resolve building process and facility performance problems. The Institute serves as a source of advice for both the private and public sectors with respect to the use of building science and technology. BD+C
