South Florida performing arts centers gets a fresh makeover

May 31, 2012

When the South Florida Community College Theatre for the Performing Arts was undergoing a complete renovation, designer Leo A Daly Architects, in collaboration with theater consultants TSG Design Solutions, wanted to make the facility look less institutional and more high-end. The team chose Cambridge architectural mesh, which gives the theater a golden glow and acts as an acoustic baffle to improve sound quality. Florida Aluminum Steel Inc. installed 1,114 sf of Plank mesh, which is 56% open and weighs 1.13 lb/sf, as infill panels on the front of the balcony boxes and as stair railings in the lobby, adding to the theater’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.
