Habitat for Humanity duplexes meet sustainability standards with brick façade in Washington, D.C., project

March 2, 2012

With brick-clad facades, the duplexes at Habitat for Humanity’s Ivy City in Washington, D.C., bring a look distinctive to the organization’s other affordable homes. Narrow lots and height requirements spurred Zavos Architecture+Design to orient the duplexes front-to-back rather than side-to-side, with the brick façade wrapping around for continuity. Each structure is oriented to allow front-unit access to the single parking space, while the rear unit has a private yard. CalStar bricks and pavers helped the project meet sustainability goals.
